Paul Harvey's Tiger R6

Below is an extract from Paul's kit car build diary - to read more, please visit his web site.

I finally gave in to the temptation to publish the build progress or (lack of it) on the web so here it is. Don't expect anything flash here just some notes and pictures that may be of interest to other builders. The kit car I've built is the Tiger R6, running a 1.8 Zetec with Weber 40's, 13 inch wheels and very little else.  The car is built for the Kit Car Championship, so no trim, windscreens or heaters etc on this one.  The regulations also insist on strict safety modifications.  I wanted to build a 7 type and after much research the Tiger R6 was finally chosen. The decision was based on many reasons, I think its a great looking car, its good value, I read/heard  good reports and feedback about Tiger and they are very helpful.

The R6 chassis is the lighter of the Tiger variants. Not only were Tiger able to provide the chassis starter pack with a few extras but have been very helpful with sourcing materials and special roll cage components. The Tiger was built in my limited spare time in a single garage, its my first kit car.

October 2003
Summary: Just about done....

Still busy trying to get things finished. Booked a Snetterton half day testing on the 3rd. Worked in to the early hours every night on the car, a full day at work then load up on to the trailer and tow it up there. Set off at 10 pm got there 3am. Slept in car (Thanks for not waking me up Mr security man) until about 6:30am when the gates opened.

Got organised and had a good time checking things out. Taking it steady to start with. No major problems a few minor ones: The bonnet worked loose due to the nose brackets not being made yet. The speed wasn't registering above 60mph, but probably just a sensor adjustment problem. There was no charge from the alternator and I figured this was because the warning light was just an led. I also found a broken bolt on the under tray- not sure how it got there.
