My Midas is a kit car, (officially designated a 2+2 Coupe)
which My Midas was originally purchased in March 1996, as a £5,000 body kit from the then manufacturer, GTM Cars of Sutton Bonington, Leicester. The Rover 114 GTi donor, registration number J939 OVM used for the kit build, had 35,000 miles on itís odometer, when it apparently met itís early demise, and the subsequent íwrite offí was obtained for £1,300 in March 1996. The body shell was initially built up over a lengthy period, by itís original purchaser. Sadly due to illness, the car was to remain unfinished, and in January 1999 it was sent for completion to Midas Carís agent, J C Engineering of Sutton Bonington, Leicester. The car was finished off there, and after being SVA tested, it was registered in June 1999 as J142 ATV. The agentís work, and the various new parts required added another £4,000 to the build cost.... |

Bodyshell: Midas Coupe 2 + 2 One piece
GRP composite monocoque, of sealed box design, with built in
front and rear crumple zones, and roll over protection. GRP bonnet,
boot and doors. Front suspension: Double wishbones, front / rear connected Hydragas displacers, telescopic dampers, and anti roll bar. Rear suspension: Trailing arms, front / rear connected Hydragas displacers, anti roll bar, telescopic dampers. Steering: Rack and pinion, with lowered and modified steering column and 11 inch diameter steering wheel fitted, for knee clearance! Engine fitted: Rover 1400 ëKí Series 1396 cc 16 valve twin cam, with multipoint fuel injection producing 105 bhp 143 bhp / tonne 5 speed gearbox. Front wheel drive. 0 to 60 mph 7 secs, 120 mph.... Wheels and tyres: 6 x 13 inch alloy with Pirrelli P600 185/55. Dimensions. Overall length 11 ft 2 in. Width 5 ft 1 in. Height 4ft 1 in. Wheelbase 7ft 4 in. Turning circle 35.0ft !
