Bert's FT Bonito

On 3 march 1980 I bought the car and it was in a very bad shape. But the body was in a very good shape. No cracks in the fiber body and the car was already equiped with a watercooled engine in stead of the original air cooled VW Beetle engine. The air outlets in the nose were made in a very professional way.

The engine ran pretty good, but if you started the engine, you could hear it miles away. This was becaurse the engine was mounted on the gearbox with a very bad adaptor plate, so the  startmotor was not good alined. The interior and dash were in a bad and sober shape and were not professionaly build. Also all the cosmetics of the car didn't fit and didn't match with the style of this sportscar. In this same year I started the first resto of this car.

Completely created a new interior. Made major adjustments to the engine and the water cooling. Changed the wheels, mounted another bumper, replaced the front brakes with disc brakes. After 2 years it was ready and drove it to the south of portugal and had a very nice holliday.

This Kit is build on a 1968 chassis of a VW Beeltle. The kit is first build in 1972 by the first owner. The body is a second generation of the FT-Bonito bodies.

The licence plates are from 1988 due to an engine fire, i've requested the original plates from 1968 by the dutch authorities. Front disk brakes and the bake brakes are from a type III VW.

The engine is a 2.8L V6 from the VW Golf VR6 with 200hp (no kat anymore!) and a Custom tranny with (much) longer gears and a lot of adjustments for a high powered engine. Tires 205/60/15 on 7J steel wheels with spinners.
