Chris Bradley's Westfield SpeedSport

Below is an extract from Chris' kit car build diary - to read more, please visit his web site.

"So, having decided upon a Westfield SpeedSport kit car I ordered the first two modules in January 2000, paid my £200 deposit and waited. I had asked Westfield if they could supply a 2.0L Zetec instead of a 1.8L and they said this would be no problem.  Since I was VERY busy with my Consulting work at IPL I really could not have collected the parts before the end of March even if they were ready. As it happened, the end of March was about the delivery time quoted - so all was well. I had decided upon black powder coating for everything - the only other option at this stage was chrome plating the front wishbones which I didn't opt for."

February 2001
Throttle Bodies

When we got the engine and gearbox home we had a cup of tea, played with the hydraulic crane I'd hired and decided to fit the whole assembly before nightfall.  The engine and gearbox fitted in without any problems at all.

We simply fitted the propshaft to the differential flange and nipped the bolts.  Then it was a case of locating the two engine mounting bushes, the two gearbox mounting bushes, and the three gearbox to propshaft bolts.  Using the hydraulic crane was soooo easy.  We could wheel it into the engine bay with millimetre precision, and raise or lower it by the smallest increments.  The whole job took less than 30 minutes.  In fact the only slight hitch was that the bottles of gearbox oil supplied in Module 3 didn't have a pouring hose & I couldn't find a suitable bottle in the garage.  So we bought a new bottle from the 24hr garage along the road & transferred the oil so as to fill the gearbox before fitting the engine & gearbox into the car.
