Andy Simmons' Dax Rush

Below is an extract from Andys' kit car build diary - to read more, please visit his web site.

"The rolling chassis. This is the frame with the body panels, suspension, brake and fuel lines, fuel tank and wheels on. Obviously at this stage the car can be moved easily around to work on.

The wheels are three piece Image alloy wheel, 16 inches in diameter. The tyres ire Pirelli P7000, 245/45 on the back and 205/45 on the front. This combination provides a lot of traction in the dry with the back end rarely stepping out of line. But at £150 each I try not to wheel spin them too much.
Because of the weight of the car and the width of the tyres, driving in the wet can be a bit scary when you put the power down."

"The engine bay is a bit of a squeeze to get everything in. There is no set way to arrange everything in the space provided, so there is great variation from car to car. I made some simple brackets to mount the expansion tank and coil, as well as the battery.

The turbo and the exhaust manifold glow if you really push the engine, which does make the GRP rather hot. Since this picture was taken I have stuck some heat resistant matting on the underside of the bonnet and on the inside if the engine bay wall, as well as heat wrap around the stainless steel exhaust pipe. This considerably reduces the heat of the GRP, preventing it from melting, also reducing the heat on all the cables and pipe work in the engine bay. "
